Measuring your springs

If you are unsure about how to measure your springs for Airlift cylinders, here's our guide. It may seem to be a daunting task, however the measurements are not an exact science, as long as they are within the nearest 10mm or so then that will be fine.

If possible, it is best to measure the springs with the vehicle's weight on the ground (not jacked up), without the vehicle being heavily laden. If this is a problem don't worry, just measure the springs whichever way is easiest for you, but try to compensate for the difference.

1. To measure the width (highlighted in green), measure as close to the middle of the coil as possible, at the widest point. Measure internally. A rough dimension will do, you may find it easier to hold a small ruler or something flat inside to get an accurate measurement.

2. To measure the height (highlighted in yellow), it is a simple matter of measuring between the top and the bottom of the open coil, again measure internally.

If your vehicle already has rubber bump stops fitted, these should ideally be removed before fitting. You may need to fit protectors (which we can also supply) if there are any sharp edges. Also while you are there, you may want to look at how you're going to run the tubing through to the top or bottom of the cylinder. Often you'll find that there's a pre-drilled hole where the standard bump stop would go.
